cablex appointed field support partner to Federal Office of Information Technology, Systems and Telecommunication

cablex AG has been awarded the maintenance contract for the FOITT’s access network consisting of routers, switches and WLAN access points from hardware manufacturer Cisco, while also managing the install, move, add and change (IMAC) operations. 

As the Confederation’s own service provider, the Federal Office of Information Technology, Systems and Telecommunication (FOITT) operates a round-the-clock carrier network for its administration and associated organisations. Various virtual private networks (VPN) are run on the carrier network for clients of the FOITT. The FOITT provides services to around 1,900 locations throughout Switzerland, including research centres. It additionally serves bodies which represent the Confederation abroad in around 180 locations worldwide. The FOITT is also responsible for networking in the cantons and the Principality of Liechtenstein. This involves a total of over 12,000 network components (layer 2 and layer 3 switches, routers, WLAN access points, firewalls and proxies), around a third of which are found in the Bern agglomeration.

An integrated ticketing system for rapid troubleshooting
cablex AG has been awarded the maintenance contract for the FOITT’s access network consisting of routers, switches and WLAN access points from hardware manufacturer Cisco, while also managing install, move, add and change (IMAC) operations. As field support partner to the FOITT, cablex makes a direct contribution in many different locations both in Switzerland and abroad. cablex carries out all troubleshooting operations around the clock according to the terms of the service level agreement (SLA). To comply with these strict specifications, cablex operates and manages part of the logistics chain and maintains a number of repositories stocked with the necessary replacement materials.

As part of the planned hardware lifecycle management activities, several thousand network components will be replaced and newly installed over the next few years.

Using an integrated ticketing system, all troubleshooting operations and installation orders are submitted by the FOITT to the cablex front desk, which is the planning and logistics hub. The cablex front desk carries out the preparatory work and sends an order notification to the relevant cablex field service organisation, which completes the work within the agreed timeframe.
