Trainee network electricians hone skills in ICC TEL 1.

Five trainee network electricians with a focus on telecommunications studied hard over four days in Kallnach. They completed their first subject-specific ICC (inter-company course) and were very motivated despite being tested every day. They were trained on everything to do with copper technology.

No matter if you're very young or already a little older, or whether the training is your first or second educational undertaking – anyone and everyone who displays passion and commitment is welcome at cablex!

Before the course began.

Five external and five internal trainee network electricians attended the ICC TEL 1. The cablex trainees travelled to Kallnach in the canton of Bern from all over Switzerland. Stefan Zumstein from Valais crossed half of Switzerland to be at the BKW training centre on 2 February 2021. Of course, local overnight accommodation was provided for all participants. One might have thought that relaxed days with like-minded people and a camp atmosphere would be on the agenda. But this wasn't the case. The trainees faced four challenging and demanding days. In other words: daily theory lessons with a practical application and subsequent daily test.

Every year, our training specialists‑ prepare for the three subject-specific ICCs. They put together the course programme for all four days and set up the training room. The planning was a little harder this year. It still wasn't clear whether the course would be allowed a week before the start. Fortunately, it was given the green light! This type of course would not be feasible online, as it focuses on practical activities.

During the course.

The course began every day at 7:30 a.m. with a theory part. The learned theory was subsequently put into practice, with the trainees receiving individual help. More and more former trainees are being employed as trainers. At the end of each day, the trainees were tested on their knowledge. Each ICC TEL 1 with a focus on telecommunications teaches about the laying, assembly and maintenance of communication and data cable systems based on copper cable technology.

The trainees learned about the different types of cable and the intricacies of laying and assembling copper cables. One example here being that copper technology allows limited data transmission compared to optical fibre technology. Processing sleeves is another important part of the ICC TEL 1 curriculum. This is because cable entries are sealed with sleeves. These protect and insulate from external influences such as dirt and water.

The video not only shows the passion and curiosity with which the trainees approach their future profession. It also gives an impression of how varied and interesting training to become a network electrician is. No matter if you're very young or already a little older, or whether the training is your first or second educational undertaking – anyone and everyone who displays passion and commitment is welcome at cablex!

So keep at it, trainees! We're looking forward to hearing about your experiences at the next ICC.
