BäreTower Bericht 2 - Hero 16:9

More Than 70 In-house antennas for the BäreTower.

The installation work is well underway.

In December 2020, we reported on project preparation work in our engineering division at cablex. All 32 stories of the highest residential tower in Canton Bern are now standing, and the interior work is well underway. Wireless technicians from cablex are now at the construction site every day to guarantee in-house mobile communications coverage.

Looking around at the construction site.

Patrick Laubscher, a wireless construction specialist at cablex and site manager for this large project, took us along to the construction site in Ostermundigen. He gave us background information and details about the installation of the more than 70 in-house antennas.

More Than 70 In-House Antennas for the BäreTower.

Highest residential tower in Canton Bern.

The BäreTower is becoming an uncontested eye catcher in the Bern region. It contains a hotel, a bar, business areas, 152 apartments, penthouse flats and a restaurant on the ninth floor. The BäreTower should be ready to be occupied in the spring of 2022.

BäreTower Bericht 2 - Aussenbild 16:9

Large project for cablex.

The BäreTower is connected using Fibre to the Home (FTTH). The cablex wireless team at the site is working with three systems. Two operating systems reach from the basement to the ninth floor. One operating system is on the 32nd floor and reaches down to the ninth floor. Data is transmitted from the Swisscom exchange via optical fibre.

All of the approximately 74 antennas are connected by coaxial cables and are installed on the ceilings of the 32 stories. Specifically, 15 antennas are intended for the underground parking garage and six antennas for the lobby of the hotel and conference rooms. An antenna is installed on every floor to ensure proper 3G and 4G mobile communications coverage in the building.

BäreTower Bericht 2 - Innenbild 16:9

The engineering division at cablex planned the antenna locations on the basis of the floor plan of the building complex long before installation work started. The engineering division simulated the future mobile coverage and showed the signal strengths. This made it possible to determine and document the specific locations of the antennas. The resulting action plan serves as a work resource at the construction site for our team of cablex technicians every day.

BäreTower Bericht 2 - Bauplan 16:9

When all the antennas are installed in the BäreTower, the mobile communications coverage will be checked by means of on-site measurements, and the final documentation will be created. Then the BäreTower can be occupied, and the renovation of the Ostermundigen train station area can start.

After all, there will be more commuters because of an additional 250 new renters and hotel guests who will want to use public transport. A new train station square, a pedestrian underpass, bicycle parking facilities and an additional bus line are planned.
