What our business partners say about the SID installation.

In autumn 2020 we reported on the rollout launch of the Smart Information Displays, or SID for short, in the railway stations of the SBB. The digital, barrier-free and interactive displays replace the familiar yellow rail timetables. Over the course of 2021, cablex will install 300 digital steles throughout Switzerland and put them into operation. High time, therefore, to get some initial feedback from our partners.

What our business partners say about the SID installation.

For cablex, the installation of the digital steles is an important and innovative project in the public eye. Enos Pizio, Project Manager at cablex, explains: “The Smart Information Displays are very modern and have a high recognition factor. Every day, thousands of commuters and other train passengers all across Switzerland look at the SIDs that we installed.”

Project Leader and Account Manager Roger Rüegg had this to add: “The installation of the steles is a technical challenge that we have successfully tackled together with our partner GDS. With projects like this, the Infrastructure business unit can put its proficiency to the test and at the same time learn from the installation of digital, dynamic displays.”

Together with GDS, the manufacturer of the displays, the cablex project team is cultivating a fair, trusting collaboration. “We are all on the same page and the two-way communication is working optimally,” says Rüegg. GDS is an internationally oriented company with recognised experience in various markets and sectors.

Matteo Pellizzaro, GDS, commented on the collaboration with cablex:

“For GDS, it is important to work together with companies like cablex that have the same vision and the same technical skills. Together, we are able to create a very positive work environment and to offer turnkey solutions, whereby the product is just the beginning, followed by the kind of customer service (service/installation/activation and maintenance) that means the client will never need to look elsewhere.”

For cablex, the SBB is of course an important client because of the Ceneri base tunnel project, too. “We are delighted by the positive partnership and value the constructive overall project management of Michael Kretz at SBB very much,” says Rüegg.

Michael Kretz, SBB Project Manager for “Smart Information Displays”:

“We launched our collaboration with cablex back in August 2020 as part of the SID pilot phase. In this context, cablex did the groundwork for some of our pilot railway stations and carried out the nationwide installation and activation of the devices at our 50 pilot locations. In a few weeks we will start the large-scale rollout with the installation of approximately 300 devices throughout Switzerland over the course of 2021. Here, cablex will take care of both the installation and the activation of the SIDs, and will also complete some of the groundwork, thus taking charge of an important part of implementation.”

Regarding our LinkedIn post from 2 March 2021 about the SID installation in Altstetten, Kretz had this to say: “Exemplary work on our public facilities.” Naturally, cablex is delighted to receive such praise and at the same time motivated to continue to live up to the high aspirations for quality and safety.
