How to get optical fibre to your home.

Fibre-optic power for your home.

We have been building the optical fibre networks of tomorrow for over 20 years now.

Fast, uninterrupted Internet, digital television in top quality, and a reliable home office setup – optical fibre makes all this possible. On behalf of Swisscom, cablex brings this pioneering technology directly to your home.

The optical fibre expansion is free.

The connection up to the house junction box is free of charge. The subsequent connection to your residential and business unit is also free of charge, provided that the existing conduit system can be used. Both installation and operation are free of charge as well – with a few exceptions (e.g. vandalism or animal damage). The prerequisite for this is a signed optical fibre connection contract. If this is not returned on time, the connecting the property to the network may be subject to a charge in future.

Increase in property value.

A connection to the optical fibre network will increase the attractiveness and value of your property.

Duration of the expansion.

The entire expansion process – from acquisition and realisation to final installation – usually takes between eight months and one year. The start time depends on various factors.

How the optical fibre expansion is progressing.

How to get optical fibre to your home.

Phase 01 – Acquisition: Preparations before the expansion.

1. Preliminary information:
The owner is informed about the optical fibre expansion.

2. Scheduling an appointment:
cablex contacts the owner to arrange a technical inspection. This appointment is non-binding.

3. Technical inspection:
The cable routing is checked and the best location for the optical fibre socket is determined. In most cases, existing lines can be used.

4. Contract conclusion:
The contract is concluded after the technical inspection on site. If the contract is signed within the specified period, the expansion is free of charge for the owner. If the contract is not signed, the expansion will be subject to a charge in future.

Phase 02 – Realisation: The construction phase begins.

5. Excavation work and cable pulling:
Conversion of the shafts and laying of the trunk cables from the local exchange to the shaft. Minor excavation work on the property if required.

6. Installation in the building:
The optical fibre cables are fed into the building from the shaft and connected at the building entry point (BEP)

7. Installation of optical fibre socket:
The optical fibre socket is installed directly in single-family homes.

For apartment buildings, the optical fibre socket is installed after the service order has been placed. Customers can contact a provider of their choice for this purpose.

Phase 03 – Service: Utilisation of the network.

8. Order a service and benefit from the best network:
After the expansion work is complete, a service can be ordered from a provider of your choice. The property is open to all operators – so you benefit from a wide choice and more competition.

Questions and answers.

Who is financing the optical fibre expansion?

Swisscom is investing around CHF 1.7 billion annually in the optical fibre expansion and will cover almost the whole of Switzerland by 2035.

What happens on my property?

The work on your property includes pulling the cable from the shaft to the property. Depending on the condition of the current conduit system, excavation work may be required.

What are the benefits of optical fibre?

Thanks to the optical fibre connection, residents can watch ultra-high definition television (UHDTV) on several devices, work at home and surf the Internet at super-fast speeds at the same time. With the optical fibre network, your property is already equipped today with the technology that will be standard in the future. There will be no negative changes, your property will simply be ready for the future.

What happens to the pipes/lines inside my house?

The existing connections can continue to be used. At the same time, optical fibre opens up access to new, more powerful services, as copper-based networks will be replaced in the long term.

Am I obliged to use certain Internet providers?

No. The connection is installed once for all operators. You and your tenants are free to choose from several providers.

Why is a signed optical fibre connection contract crucial?

The contract regulates the connection of your property by Swisscom free of charge – from the building to the riser shaft connectionBy upgrading to optical fibre, you increase the attractiveness of the property, as future band width requirements can be easily met. This increases the value of your property in the long term.
