Completing an apprenticeship is about much more than just a diploma. It represents two, three or four years of commitment, a willingness to learn, and personal development. At the same time, it is a testament to the successful collaboration between learners, vocational trainers, workplace mentors and all those involved who have supported the learners along this journey.
This year, nine learners have completed their apprenticeships as Electricians with a Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (VET), Network Electricians (VET), and Assembly Electricians (VET). The graduates come from all three language regions of Switzerland, and it is particularly pleasing that two-thirds of them will remain with cablex and embark on a new stage in their careers as skilled workers.
Here's what our graduating apprentices have to say about their apprenticeships:
For the network electricians, this qualification was a special milestone as they are the first group to have completed the qualification process under the new education regulations. Instead of a written professional knowledge examination, the focus was on comprehensive practical examinations in various areas (copper, fibre optics, overhead lines, HFC, and measurement and testing technology) and a technical interview centred on practical competence. This has specifically strengthened the practical focus of the training.
Such a far-reaching reform of the examination procedures was a challenge for everyone involved, so I'm all the more delighted that this first group has been a success. I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the trainees, as well as the vocational trainers, workplace mentors, experts and everyone else involved who have contributed to this.
Marion Stulz, Head of Vocational Education and Training
The requirements for the profession of network electrician are constantly evolving. cablex, together with the sponsoring body, is therefore exploring ways in which qualified, VET-certified network electricians specialising in telecommunications can be given targeted further training in the energy sector in future. In this way, we are creating new opportunities for development and ensuring that our skilled employees are equipped to meet the challenges of tomorrow. Furthermore, the basic training programme for our second area of specialisation – installation electricians/assembly electricians – has been overhauled as part of the BiV02022+ project to bring it more closely into line with technological developments, and the first apprentices will be starting in a few weeks' time.
The next group of apprentices will be starting at cablex as early as August. A total of 15 young talents are starting their apprenticeships – two as Electricians with a Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (VET), twelve as Network Electricians (VET), and one as an Assembly Electrician (VET) – unfortunately with no female apprentices, as has been the case for the past two years. Through this commitment, cablex continues to invest specifically in training the skilled workers of tomorrow.
On behalf of everyone at cablex, we would like to offer our warmest congratulations to all our apprentices on successfully completing their training. We wish them every success and happiness, and also a sense of curiosity as they continue on their professional and personal journeys – and we would like to thank everyone who has accompanied and supported them during this important phase.
