New talent on board: 14 apprentices start at cablex.

August marks a special moment at cablex: Our new apprentices start their training. This year, we warmly welcome 13 new trainees who are looking to become Network Electricians with a Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (VET) with a focus on telecommunications and one prospective Assembly Electrician with a Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (VET). We look forward to supporting them on their journey into a new chapter full of technology, responsibility and development opportunities.

A strong start with prospects.

Do you remember your first day of training or work? The first steps in a new environment are formative – especially for our apprentices. This is why the Vocational Training department at cablex organises a target-oriented induction with added value.

In German-speaking Switzerland, our new apprentices started out with the First Steps event in Spiez (4 to 6 August) – three days full of learning content, processes and tools, team building, orientation and personal development. In addition to getting to know each other, many important topics were on the agenda:

  • insights into cablex as a company – from the organisational chart to the tools we work with every day
  • framework conditions for basic vocational training – including curriculum, rights and obligations, and the assessment system
  • two highlights: firstly, the personal meet and greet with CEO Roger Keller, who warmly welcomed the new talents and answered their questions, and secondly, the tour of the underground tunnel at the Bollwerk exchange in Bern

"This year's First Steps in Spiez were a complete success. We welcomed eleven eager and committed apprentices – we are particularly pleased that we were able to welcome another young woman this year. The feedback was very positive: Many had not expected such a varied and motivating induction. A joint start creates the ideal basis for getting to know each other, networking and also teaching the same basics to all apprentices throughout Switzerland. It's a format that has proven its worth over the past few years and one that we definitely want to continue with."

– Marion Stulz, Specialist Basic Vocational Training Manager at cablex

In French-speaking Switzerland and Ticino, the introductory days are held at slightly different times under the name "Welcome Days" – adapted to regional needs, but with the same aim: providing the perfect start to professional life. On 11 August in Penthalaz and Geneva, we welcomed two Network Electricians with a Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (VET) with a focus on telecommunications, and in Giubiasco, one Network Electrician with a Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (VET) with a focus on telecommunications will start on 25 August.

A varied training programme lies ahead.

Training at cablex is diverse: It conveys responsibility, expertise and future skills. During their three-year apprenticeship, our VET Network Electricians work in different areas and learn all about copper, Fox and HFC networks, pulling cables, overhead lines, installation, measurement technology and troubleshooting.

cablex also offers an exciting training programme for prospective Assembly Electricians with a Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (VET). Over the course of three years, apprentices gain experience in heavy- and low-current installations – in commercial buildings, industrial plants and modern building networks. Our apprentices also come into contact with our Smart Energy segment and learn about innovative topics such as smart buildings and smart cities. This means that apprentices are more likely to be working in the industrial and commercial sector – and less in traditional private households.

Particularly exciting: In 2025, cablex will also enable three motivated employees without a VET diploma in this professional field, or with an unrecognised qualification, to qualify as Network Electricians with a Federal Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (VET) with a focus on telecommunications. Option-three apprenticeships offer training with a fitter's salary.

The start of an apprenticeship is not only an important moment for our new trainees – but also for cablex. Because with every year of training, we invest in the skilled labour of tomorrow and strengthen our position as a committed training company.

Welcome to the team – we look forward to meeting you!
